At 2,753 feet, Mount Magazine is the highest point in the state. In the 1920s, a lodge and cabins were built on the mountain’s south bluff. Other overnight facilities followed, including a U.S. Forest Service lodge that burned in 1971. In 1983, the top of the mountain was designated a state park, and in May 2006 a new state-of-the-art lodge and 13 cabins were opened up for overnight stays.

Today, thousands travel up Scenic Highway 309 to enjoy the accommodations and incredible views of the Petit Jean River Valley to the south and the Arkansas River Valley to the north.

The resort mountain lodge features a long sweeping patio of stone that faces the sweeping view from the bluff. Every room in the three-story guest wing faces south to capture the view of the valley below.

The Skycrest Restaurant features an ever-changing menu and a two-story fireplace, with large windows to showcase the incredible view. There are also meeting rooms for conventions and gatherings, and an indoor swimming pool with hot tub and lap lane.

For those who would rather rough it, there are places to camp and trails to hike. Interpretive programs are available for all ages.
