Discover The River Valley
History enthusiasts will fall in love with what the town has to offer. Fort Smith National Historic Site is home to the “Hanging Judge,” Isaac C. Parker, who oversaw 79 executions and sentenced over 160 people to death during his time as Fort Smith’s judge in 1875. Touring the courthouse and courtroom is fascinating and haunting. The Fort Smith Museum of History explores the origins of Fort Smith and how it grew into the prominent town it is today. You can also tour a Victorian Italianate-style home, the Clayton House, in the historic Belle Grove District, where visitors can learn more about the Native American Indian Territory before Western settlers arrived.
Discover unique restaurants in Fort Smith, such as Anthony’s Italian on Cavanaugh Road, the 906 Cocktail & Cigar Lounge on Garrison Avenue and Calico County on 56th Street.
Just southeast of Fort Smith is the Cedar Falls Trail, a 2-mile path leading to the north corner of Petit Jean State Park, featuring stunning waterfalls, lush foliage and breathtaking views. Known as one of Arkansas’ most photographed locations, this trail is ideal for outdoor adventure seekers. It follows Cedar Creek and terminates at the 95-foot Cedar Falls Waterfall.
